UT Humanities Center: Public Books Circle with Professor Georgi Gardiner
Discussion of Entitled: How Male Privilege Hurts Women, by Kate Manne

In this bold book, Cornell University philosopher Kate Manne offers a radical new framework for understanding misogyny. The book ranges widely across culture. Manne’s book argues that privileged men’s sense of entitlement to admiration, care, bodily autonomy, knowledge, and power is a pervasive social problem with often devastating consequences. Jennifer Szalai of the New York Times called Manne “a pathologist wielding a scalpel, methodically dissecting various specimens of muddled argument to reveal the diseased tissue inside.”

Georgi Gardiner is assistant professor in the UT Department of Philosophy and specializes in epistemology, investigating the epistemology of legal standards of proof and sexual assault accusations. She received her doctorate in Philosophy from Rutgers University. Before joining the University of Tennessee, she was a Junior Research Fellow at St. John’s College, Oxford University.
